WHAT IS THE PSAT?

The PSAT stands for the Preliminary SAT. It is designed to help you practice for the SAT and stand out to colleges. In addition to providing practice for the SAT, it can help qualify students for scholarships and national recognition.

WHAT DOES MY SCORE MEAN?

HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY SCORE? WHEN CAN I TAKE THE REAL SAT?

Below “Your Total Score,” students will find their section scores. “Your Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Score” is on the left (430 on the slide), and is the scaled score they earned from the Reading Test and the Writing and Language Test combined. “Your Math Score,” to the right of the total score (530 on the slide), is the scaled score they earned from taking the Math Test. Both of these section scores are on a scale of 160 to 760 on PSAT/NMSQT, and are added together to get the total score. On the SAT, the range for these section scores is 200–800.

WHAT IS THE SAT + WRITING?

The SAT is a college entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to assess your readiness for college-level work. Your SAT score is a major factor in college admissions, so it’s important to prep to achieve your best score. The SAT exam tests your skills in math, reading, and writing, and includes an optional essay.

ACT is a website to prepare and administer standardized tests for the ACT exams. All student must create an account if they haven't done so already to sign up for an exam or review their scores.

WHAT IS THE ACT + WRITING?

The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The purpose of the ACT is to measure your readiness for college and provide colleges one common data point that can be used to compare applicants. The ACT exam tests your skills in math, reading, english and science, plus an optional essay.

WHICH ONE SHOULD I TAKE?

We typically recommend that students take both the SAT and the ACT to ensure that they have the best chance at being competitive for college admissions. Additionally, some students may score better on one test versus the other, depending on their academic strengths.
